Description:
Located in the Castle of Montemor-o-Novo, the ruined São Tiago Church was restored and opened to the public in 2007 as the Castle’s Interpretive Center.
Before 1302 it was already referenced, being one of the four parish churches that existed in the intramural village. Open to worship until the second half of the nineteenth century, it served in the twentieth century as a deposit for objects of historical and artistic interest and as a support house for the gardener.
It has an interesting set of mural paintings done throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, highlighting the ceiling of the chancel decorated with an “Orchestra of Musician Angels”.
Rehabilitation Work.
